Dr. Parker Wilcox received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science degree from the University of Connecticut. Immediately following his undergraduate education, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University. After veterinary school, Dr. Wilcox completed a rotating internship in medicine and surgery at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital, followed by a one-year specialty internship in ophthalmology at the University of Saskatchewan Western College in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, before beginning his residency.
Dr. Wilcox completed a 3-year comparative ophthalmology residencyat The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center in 2023. Upon completing his residency, he completed and passed a rigorous three-day written and practical board examination, earning status as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (DACVO) in 2023. Dr. Wilcox has published research in the fields of canine glaucoma and ulcerative keratitis. His special interests include adnexal, corneal and lens diseases and microsurgery.
Since completing his residency, Dr. Wilcox built two ophthalmology services and served as ophthalmology department head at both. He then made the decision to leave corporate veterinary practice, and founded his own proudly independent mobile ophthalmology service in Connecticut, and at the same time joined Guardian Veterinary Specialists, a large independent multispecialty referral and emergency hospital in Brewster, NY
Dr. Wilcox's favorite aspect of veterinary ophthalmology is forming bonds and working with all his patients and clients. His goal as an ophthalmologist is to provide exceptional medical and surgical care, ensuring that pet owners feel included, educated and supported in the process. Outside of work, Dr. Wilcox enjoys spending time with his partner, Carey, and standard poodle, Clementine. He enjoys the outdoors, creating music and sound engineering, and is primarily focused on pursuing his other entrepreneurial insterests in building tools for veterinarians that address painpoints in veterinary medicine operations. He continues to teach through his social media platform posting educational content for GP and ER veterinarians to enhance competency in ophthalmology, and gives CE at veterinary conferences around the US. He is an ophthalmology mentor for The Vet Tribe, a specialst-led global education platform for veterinarians and students, and he also has founded an The Pocket Ophthalmologist creating specialist-built clinical tools for GP and ER Veterinarians to improve their knowledge, confidence, efficiency, and depth of knowledge with ophthalmology cases.
