Dr. Zimmerman earned her Bachelor of Science in biology and pre-medicine from Ball State University (IN) in 2005 followed by her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (IN) in 2013. She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center (IN) in 2014. After initially working in small animal emergency medicine (CT), she decided to pursue her love of the eye. She completed a specialty internship at BluePearl Veterinary Partners (Levittown & Philadelphia, PA) and a research fellowship at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign, IL), both in ophthalmology. She then completed her residency in comparative ophthalmology at the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital (Athens, GA) and became a diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology thereafter. Dr. Zimmerman is passionate about ocular surface disease, microsurgery, and mental health in the veterinary profession. She loves all animals, and particularly loves cats and brachycephalic dogs. She currently works Animal Eye Associates of St. Louis.
