Biography:
Gillian is a veterinary clinician-scientist who graduated from Glasgow University, UK. She completed PhD studies in RPE cell biology, Residency training in Veterinary Ophthalmology and served as a Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the University of London. She then held faculty positions at UC-Davis and Iowa State University, before securing an NIH career development award and moving to UW-Madison to pursue her interests in glaucoma research. Gillian now holds a joint faculty position as a tenured Professor in the Dept. of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the School of Medicine and Public Health and the Dept. of Surgical Sciences at the School of Veterinary Medicine, where she is the Department Chair and holds the Tim and Nancy Speaker Chair in Canine Health. She serves on the Leadership Committee of the McPherson Eye Research Institute. She is a Past-President of ECVO and is a former member of the Executive Board of the Vision For Animals Foundation and former Chair of the ARVO Animals in Research Committee. Together with a diverse team of talented researchers and students in her lab, Gillian conducts studies that aim to reduce the incidence of painful and blinding glaucoma in dogs, cats and humans, and studies to enhance understanding of Alzheimer's related pathology and cognitive decline in these species. She served on the Editorial Board of the journal Veterinary Ophthalmology for over 10 years, has published extensively and has co-authored two textbooks and multiple book chapters.
